The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association, in response to years-long attendance declines, will not be selecting baseball all-state teams this summer.
This was a difficult decision, but it has become clear the decision is a necessary step. In reaching this decision, paid members earlier this year had the opportunity to weigh in, with the overwhelming response received supporting the idea that the baseball all-state meetings were no longer well-attended enough to be successful.
As with any change made by IPSWA, this could be revisited in future years. However, based on recent trends and polling of members, IPSWA has decided selecting the teams this year is not feasible.
The Iowa Baseball Coaches Association selects its own baseball all-state teams. They will be released on Aug. 5 after coaches select the teams in early August. IPSWA will provide its mailing list of sports writers to the IBCA so that they can distribute their teams directly to the media.
The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association has full intention of continuing going forward, and in the 2022-23 school year will select football, boys basketball and girls basketball all-state teams.
We appreciate newspapers, our members and coaches that continue to dedicate their time and resources toward selecting all-state teams.
